Welcome

Dear Families,

Welcome to the OFSD Early Learning Center!  Our goal is to ensure each family receives the care and support they need, as well as provide excellent preschool experiences for every child. We continue to grow, develop, and reflect on our current practices, and as a result we have decided to add several new components to enhance our existing curriculum.

Our curriculum is guided by the Missouri Early Learning Standards and focuses on the following areas: Early Literacy & Written Expression, Mathematics, Social Emotional Development, Fine Motor & Gross Motor Development, Health & Safety, Communication Development, Approaches to Learning, and the Sciences.

We currently use the Emerging Language Literacy Curriculum (ELLC) to supplement our current model, which focuses on providing a strong foundation in the areas of vocabulary, phonological awareness, language, and sound play. All of our instruction is designed to engage ALL children in active, meaningful, hands on learning experiences facilitated through play.

We have also added the Second Step Early Childhood Program, which is a researched based early childhood social emotional curriculum designed to teach pro-social behaviors in a developmentally appropriate manner. The program is specifically designed to help support our little ones by teaching them how to listen, pay attention, get along with others, and manage their own behavior by developing selfregulation and executive functioning skills.

In addition, to ensure our students are well prepared to enter kindergarten we will also be adding Ready for Math which will focus on the following skills: Counting Big Numbers, Graphing, Adding, Patterning, and Shapes.

Our Parents as Teachers Program has also experienced incredible growth, and we are excited that we will be able to provide more home-visits to eligible families, additional group connections/ parent education presentations on topics related to early education, and FREE comprehensive developmental screenings to ALL children between the ages 0-5. We have also added theme based-play groups and family fun activities throughout the year in an effort to encourage, support, and build positive partnerships with all of our families.

We continue to provide early childhood special education services such as, diagnostic evaluations, speech/language services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and center-based specialized instruction to each eligible child, and want to encourage families to call us whenever they have any concerns related to their child’s development. Our goal is to support our community and provide the necessary tools and resources to ensure the success of all our students.

Again, I am incredibly excited to meet you in the upcoming months. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at 636-925-5400 or email me at [email protected].

Respectfully, Kari Schriber
