Google Hangout with Kristen Lewis

Some of Jodi Boschert’s sixth grade reading students may have a new found interest in becoming a writer or a reporter. Today, students interviewed New York City-based editor Kristen Lewis. Students connected with the Scholastic Scope via a Google Hangout. Each month, Boschert’s class read a number of articles in her magazine, which meant students had plenty of questions for Lewis.

  • How far have you traveled for a story?
  • How long does the writing process take?
  • What article did you enjoy writing most?
  • What’s the coolest place you’ve ever been to research for a story?

Lewis noted the “coolest” place was Death Valley. Students even pitched a story idea for Lewis’ next research project; the 25th anniversary of the Flood of 1993.

Lewis answered question after question and offered students this advice: “Read, research and revise.”  She said being a writer is a “great gig” because it’s you’re always learning.
