Proposition R

The Board of Education approved placing a no-tax increase bond issue, Proposition R, on the April 3 ballot. If approved by voters, the $18.4 million no-tax increase bond issue addresses the needs aging infrastructure and prepares for future growth.

If successful, Proposition R will repair, restore and renew district schools with the following projects:

  • Replace and update aging infrastructure on main campus including HVAC units
  • Renovate restroom facilities at OFE, OFMS and OFHS to increase access, function and efficiency
  • Construct a new cafeteria, kitchen and front office (13,000 sq. ft.) at OFMS
  • Repurpose existing spaces at OFMS
  • Expand Early Learning Center by approximately 8,000 square feet for an additional six classrooms, a therapy room, staff bathroom and indoor activity space
  • Create and increase playground accessibility at Discovery Elementary & Orchard Farm Elementary
  • Enhance security measures at all district schools (options currently under review)
  • Create a walking path from Discovery Elementary to nearby neighborhood
  • Address space needs of the existing transportation facility
  • Construct a greenhouse at OFHS
  • Acquire land to address future growth needs

Superintendent Dr. Tom Muzzey believes Proposition R prepares Orchard Farm for the future as well as protects taxpayers’ investment in existing facilities. Proposition R requires a simple majority to pass on the Tuesday, April 3 ballot. If successful, the tax rate will remain unchanged.
