Orchard Farm Families,

Many in our community are feeling deep and mixed emotions following the senseless death of George Floyd, as well as others who are victims of prejudice. Across the US, citizens are demonstrating to show the weight of their grief, fear, and anger. During these challenging times, we want to remind our students, parents, guardians, and staff that the Orchard Farm School District's mission is empowering each learner to excel in diverse communities. Now, more than ever, we are committed to continuing that mission. There is no place for racism or bigotry in our world. We want every student, especially our minority students, to feel safe and know that their voice is being heard. We are also committed to continuing to have those critical conversations with our students and staff about race and equality and to be part of the solution.

As educators, we work to break down barriers, to listen, and to create opportunities for each and every one of our students. Equitable treatment – in education, as in all our systems – matters. As a Missouri public school district, we are dedicated to the work of inspiring and equipping students to pursue futures beyond what they can imagine, which includes a future in which racial injustice no longer exists. We want them to be compassionate citizens, effective communicators, critical thinkers, servant leaders, collaborators, and problem-solvers. These are also skills the adults in our organization and community must model for our young people – especially today. Ultimately, Orchard Farm is a better community because of our diversity and differences. Stay safe.
