OFSD Families,

As we near the end of the 2019-2020 school year, we wanted to provide an update on programs, services, and events happening in our District. Please take a moment to review the important areas listed below.

Access to Meals (Extended until June 30th)

Student breakfast and lunch packs will CONTINUE to be made available until June 30, 2020.

  • Pick up locations and times are as follows:

    • Discovery Elementary school (11:00am-12:00pm)

    • St. Francis Church in Portage Des Sioux - parking lot (10:00am-11:00am)

    • If you are unable to pick up meals due to illness or lack of transportation, delivery options are available

  • On Mondays, we provide 2 days worth of breakfast and lunch. On Wednesdays, we provide 3 days worth of breakfast and lunch.

Our Chartwells Food Service staff will continue to handle all of the food prep and Orchard Farm staff will handle distribution.

*If you have already completed the survey there is nothing you need to do. Your meals will continue.  For anyone in need of this service, please complete the survey below. Chromebook Drop Off

Chromebook collection will take place during the following three days:

•Tuesday, May 19th from 2pm-7pm

•Wednesday, May 20th from 10am-3pm

•Thursday, May 21st from 7am-2pm

Please return the Chromebook to the building for which the student attends. For building drop off locations view the maps below. OFHS Seniors will soon receive information about a Cap & Gown Pickup and Chromebook Drop Off.

Three items will be collected - Chromebook, school-issued case, and the matching charger for the device.  Elementary students will be returning the Chromebook and the charger. This is a great time to return library books and textbooks that have not been returned yet, as well.

  • Returning your child’s Chromebook will allow us to clean, provide maintenance, and repair the device so that it is ready for the first day of school. Please have your child remove any personal items from the case prior to drop off (wireless mouse USB, papers, etc.).

  • Secondary students, we will need to know your child’s Eagle Time/Advisory/Homeroom teacher at the time of collection.

Virtual Learning

We recognize that this has been an adjustment for everyone as we have transitioned to virtual instruction. Please take a minute to share with us how it is going for you.

Access to Learning Opportunities & Report Cards

On April 20th, we moved to a 4 day learning week. Our staff will continue to work and connect with students five days a week. However, no “new” instructional material will be presented/given out on this last Friday of the school year. We hope that the new weekly schedule gave staff and students more allotted time to master essential learning skills and give everyone some much needed time to breathe a little bit more.

PreK and Grades K-5

Elementary teachers provided their last set of Choice boards on Monday of this week, which included end of year activities. Those printed copies are available in the same locations just as they have been throughout the closure.

  • Students will be promoted to the next grade level. Students will not receive a letter grade on their report card. Standards will not be reported on for the 4th quarter.

  • Report Cards (with comments from your teacher) will be emailed home on May 21st.

Grades 6-12

Secondary teachers have created learning activities for students to continue to practice and support essential learning skills; communicated through email and Google classroom.

  • Students will PASS each class provided they meet the minimum criteria set forth by administration/teacher.

  • Students will NOT take a final exam.

  • Report Cards will be emailed home on May 21st.

  • Each teacher has posted Menu Options in Classroom. The 1st Menu Options locked in the student's 3rd quarter grade for that course and raised the grade accordingly. All other Menu Options submitted have the opportunity to raise the student's grade.

  • AP and College credit courses will continue with posted assignments from the teacher.

  • Students will NOT take a final exam.

  • Report Cards will be emailed home on May 21st.

Athletics & Activities

In addition to all youth summer camps being canceled for the entirety of the summer, all high school level athletics and activities (summer contact days) have now been canceled for the month of June.  With this in mind, our coaches and directors will be working together as a department to create a new schedule for July, in case we are able to safely resume at that time.

All high school seniors that were on a Spring Sports roster in 2020 should keep an eye on their mailboxes for a package recognizing their efforts throughout their high school careers.  Items should arrive the week of 5/18. Camp refunds are being processed and will be applied directly to the credit card used for registration.

Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony

The Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony will be held Saturday, July 11, 2020. Graduating seniors and their families will soon be receiving communications from the administration with important dates and instructions with guidance from our public health department.

Future Updates

We will continue to follow the guidance of health and government officials as we make decisions regarding the 2020-2021 school year. We will share information and resources through our School Messenger parent notification system as well as our district website, eNews and social media channels. We look forward to honoring the Class of 2020 and hope everyone has a safe summer.
